Welcome to Emerson Photography - Your Aberdeen Wedding Photographer

Thanks for looking in! I'm Jamie and I've been photographing weddings since 2005. I recently moved back home to Aberdeen with my family. I remember thinking that I couldn't wait to start photographing weddings in all the amazing Aberdeenshire venues and the past few years really have been quite magical! Creating beautiful story-telling wedding photographs in Scottish castles is pretty much a dream come true for me and hopefully, no matter where your venue is, or what it looks like, that shines through in every set of photographs I create. After all, it's the people that make the wedding, not the location!

This is documentary photography, refined over the years until it looks completely natural. It's all about expertly telling the unique story of your day, capturing those emotions for you to look back at over the years to come. It's about the fleeting glances, the tears (of all kinds!), the little here-and-gone-forever moments that go together to tell the story of your wedding.

I'll be there to capture it all without interfering. You might not see very much of me throughout the day but about three weeks after your wedding I'll send you the most beautiful gallery of documentary photographs. Each one will have been individually worked on. Timeless but contemporary, each one will have its own meaning to you.

Why Choose Emerson Photography?

Good question! Choosing a photographer can seem like an overwhelming task. Why does one cost £500 and another £2800? Can I believe what they say? How on Earth do I make an informed decision?! I always advise clients to start by looking at the photos. It seems blindingly obvious but make sure you like the photographer's work. Is it in the style you want? Ask to see a full wedding (or two) to get a good idea of what to expect (here's a selection of around 100 photos from one of my recent weddings - https://emersonphotography.zenfolio.com/p452376709/slideshow
Here are a few reasons to consider Emerson Photography:

  • Experience. I've been photographing weddings for almost two decades. I've worked in every conceivable type of light from a candlelit cave to a massive, bright orange ballroom. Knowing exactly how to deal with any given situation is a huge help. Knowing my kit inside out leaves me free to get creative with the light, the surroundings, the people and their emotions. I'm not stuck wondering how to deal with strong, orange backlight, or wondering if flickering fluorescent lights are going to ruin my photos!

  • I'm very much a People Person! When it comes to working in a service industry, this is an absolute must. Your photographer really does have to be friendly, approachable, super-efficient, able to solve common issues in an instant and basically just be an easy person to be around! I suppose this is really another "Experience" heading but more to do with people. It's not something that comes naturally to everyone.

  • Longevity and reliability. When choosing a photographer, it's worth making sure they've been doing it for a while. You really don't want to find your photographer has gone back to their day job two years after you booked them for your big day. This is becoming scarily common - it's not just about losing money, it's about rushing about at the last minute, trying to find someone reliable when you should be concentrating on enjoying the lead up to your wedding. Reviews are your friend here - you can google Emerson Photography Reviews to see what my clients think of my photos.

  • I love photography!! All new wedding photographers are at pains to tell you how passionate they are about their work and most truly are. It's about commitment too though. I was lucky enough to turn my passion into a solid living but it was not easy! I spent four years back at college and then University for a degree in Fine Art Photography, followed by many more years of learning a craft, assisting other photographers, attending workshops and learning not just how to take photographs but also how to run a customer-focussed business. This is most definitely a lifestyle not a weekend job. I continue to learn every single day - it's the least I can do for those who choose Emerson Photography. And most importantly, I still, absolutely adore wedding photography. It offers a creative freedom hard to find in many other lines of work!

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are where I photograph most of my weddings but needless to say, I'm always happy to travel further afield and have worked everywhere from Tuscany to London via the Isle of Skye! All this is probably more affordable than you might think too - please see my Aberdeen Wedding Photography Price page for details.
